The Chris Nolan Batman movies told us that when Batman showed up, he quickly sent all the conventional criminals to jail, leaving a void to be filled by much freakier and unconventional criminals like the ones Batman is used to confront, particularly the Joker.

I guess this happened in real life as well, to another great and flawed super-hero: Roger Federer. Much as like Christian Bale character, Federer was obliterating conventional rival tennis players in 2005 and 2006. There was a void, ready to be filled by more extreme players. First it was Nadal, a Bane-like machine of pure grit and now we have the Djoker, a gluten-free machine with no weaknesses.

What can the Fed after another crushing defeat such as today’s Masters final? Perhaps he should hang more around Sr. Michael Caine?
