What about Adele? If she fancied a creative sanctuary, she would be joining the 250,000 Britons who live in Los Angeles County. More importantly, when she recorded parts of her chart-topping Rolling in the Deep here, she looked right at home. Check out the studio footage on her YouTube channel – watch her driving along the Pacific Coast Highway, trademark shades in place, “There’s a fire starting in my heart” sounding out.

Then, in she goes through the Mexican-red front door, the Shangri-La Ranch sign above it, and you see her pointing through the window of the studio across to the Californian rooftops, or sitting in a sun-kissed window spot, writing.
