Megadeals Record companies, like their movie-studio brethren, have been signing superstars to pacts worth tens of millions of dollars only to see the resultant product–George Michael’s recent album, say, or R.E.M.’s–stiff in the marketplace. Hmmm, is there a correlation between ill-advised deals and rising CD prices?
